Officials from AliMed Inc. have created a new dynamic dorsal night splint to treat the pain and discomfort of plantar fasciitis. The D2 Night Splint is a patent-pending solution from the company that brought you the original night splint.
The D2 Dorsal Night Splint provides a dynamic and progressive stretch force to the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon and calf musculature. The D2 is also comfortable for the patient to wear. Most night splints immediately force the foot into a 90° position, which causes great patient discomfort. The stretch force on the D2 can be adjusted to match the patient’s comfort level. As tolerance improves, the stretch can be increased. This leads to better patient compliance and quicker healing.
“Patients will actually wear the D2 night splint the entire night,” said Marge Donovan, orthopedic product manager, in a press release. “They can easily control the stretch of the D2, allowing all night comfort as they continue the healing process.”
The D2 is also effective when used to stretch calf musculature after long periods of postsurgical ankle immobilization. A dynamic stretch cord provides adjustable force to gently pull the foot into dorsiflexion. The D2 shell uses numbered hooks to regulate and secure the stretch cord, allowing the patient and doctor to gauge progress. A soft bottom and articulating shell provides safer ambulation.
